Déjà Dead

Déjà Dead - Kathy Reichs Crystal's 4 Star Review
This is my first foray into the book series by the author who inspired ‘Bones’. I was slightly disappointed, I was expecting Temperance Brennan to be just like the tv character. She is so not. Once I let go of my preconceived notions, I was able to fully get into the story. No, I didn’t start with the first book in the series, I didn’t realize that it was a series when I found the book. I feel that I don’t necessarily have to read the prior ones to be ready for this book. There were a couple of lingering questions, but because I have them, I will now make a point to get the prior books and read them. Ms. Reichs has definitely made a fan out of me. The characters are well fleshed out, the writing fast paced, and keeps the readers attention.

Black Sheep

Black Sheep - Tabatha Vargo Crystal's 5 star review
I have sat on this review, not sure how to word it. How do you describe a book that has just completely moved you? I’m not sure that I can.
Tyson had the absolute worst childhood one can have. At the tender age of 12 he is now an orphan and being moved from foster home to foster home. Then he lucks out and a friend of his father is found. That friend agrees to take Tyson in and his life is forever changed.
Tyson is given the one thing he never had growing up. Family. The Palmer’s took him in, cared for him, and called him their own. But inside, Tyson felt the same blackness he had always felt. Even being around Nicole, the Palmer’s daughter couldn’t erase the blackness he felt inside.
This book is the story of the Tyson and Nicole, but it’s so much more. The passion and the depth to the writing. The world that Ms. Vargo created is just astonishing. I sit here in front of my computer and I just have no words to express the depth of gratitude, the honor I had in reading this book. It is such a moving story. There are plenty of times that I cried while reading this. The emotions it brought forth was just exhausting, but in the best way possible. This is no sweet, cute, quick HEA. It’s a book to be savored and re-read. An amazing read!!

Bella Vol. 4

Bella Vol. 4 - Kimberly Blalock Action packed and omg moments! These just keep getting better. Jax is in a coma and will be for some time and Bella knows what she must do to save and protect her family. She takes big strides to step up and prove herself in this story. Just when you thought she couldn't get stronger, she somehow manages. She loves Jax for who he is and continues to stand by him even though he has never let her in on the mafia and Famiglias inner workings.

Bella Vol. 2

Bella Vol. 2 - Kimberly Blalock The second installment was just as good as the first if not better. Bella puts up a fight and is braver. She wants to head up the Sagatori Family but women should know their place in the mafia. Stand by their man. Bella is a strong character who thinks she has what it takes to get the job done but life has other plans as she's tossed at Jax. Too many questions, conditions and threats are abound. Definately will keep your attention.

The Alchemist's Son

The Alchemist's Son - Athena Daniels Crystal's 5 Star Review
This is book 2 in the series and you need to read The Seer’s Daughter before you begin. It’s almost time for the ceremony and Sage is gathering everything needed to get rid of the demon. The veil is thinned so much that past and present are merging and creating havoc on the town. People who never had problems are behaving abnormally. Things are out of control and the higher ups are wanting to do a repeat of what happened 100 years ago.
Can Sage, Ethan, and the others save the town and people from the same fate they faced in the past? Can they rid this plane of the demon and his influence once and for all??
This was such a page turner. I was glued to my tablet until my eyes hurt. I rested and went back for more. There is so much action, you can’t wait to see what happens next. The writing is great and the storyline exciting. I did receive a copy of this book for an honest review.

Nitro's Torment

Nitro's Torment - Nina Levine Aubrey's 4 Star Review
Nitro's Torment was an emotional roller coaster of a read. The Sidney Storm MC is in war with another MC. People are dying and their is non-stop fighting. Along for the ride is Tatum. Tatum never asked to be involved with what is going on but she can't run now. Nitro has Tatum in his protection. All they do is fight, bicker and argue. However, underneath all the gruff exterior of Nitro lies someone who just longs to be loved and for someone he can protect that isn't his family. The two of them have a tonne of secrets that keep them from entering into a relationship sooner.
Nitro is responsible for so much outside of Storm. He has a lot on his hands but he can't resist the tattooed beauty of Tatum. He wants to and tries hard to do so but she is in his system. Nitro is the alpha character that I like. He is so alpha but yet takes care of his sister, his brother and his niece and doesn't care what others think about that.
Tatum wants revenge. Her brother was killed and she wants who did to pay. She really doesn't think about what it will take to get revenge. She also wants to be loved and protected but fights it more than anyone.
I loved this book. The banter was funny and witty. You could feel the chemistry of both characters pop off the page. I need to read to Storm series now.

The Trouble with Mistletoe

The Trouble with Mistletoe - Jill Shalvis Crystal's 5 Star Review
This was such an adorable book. Willa is the owner of a local pet store, the kind you can go to for all your needs, including grooming. She employs young people recently released from the Foster Care system because she herself knows what it’s like be in their shoes. She has an amazing group of friends who all take care of each other. The only thing seemingly missing is a relationship. Her last relationship ended badly and she doesn’t want to put herself out there again. Who can blame her after having an ex like hers.
One day an extremely handsome man has come in to Willa’s store to ask her to cat sit. He’s just been saddled with his great aunt’s hellion, a cat can’t handle. She doesn’t want to, you see, Keane Winters happens to be the one guy in high school a very shy Willa asked out, the one who stood her up. He doesn’t even seem to remember her at all.
If you are looking for a cute HEA full of laughter and fun, check out this book by Jill Shavis. It is part of a series, but I had not known that when I received this book. I am now interested in the whole series. I absolutely love this whole crew of characters and can’t wait to see what happens next! I did get this book in exchange for an honest review. And honestly, I will be reading the entire series based off this book.

The Blogger and the Hunk

The Blogger and the Hunk - Jane Matisse Crystal's 4 Star Review
I was gifted a copy in exchange for an honest review. Penelope is your everyday woman. She’s a work from home editor and blogger who is shy and doesn’t like her extra pounds that much. Jack is a hottie and he knows it. They meet up one night at a local club and head back to his house. What they both thought would be a one night stand is suddenly out the window when they find out they are to be in the same wedding together.

It’s a cute, quick read. My problem was it seemed to be somewhat ordinary. Chubby shy girl ends up with the hottie and spends most of the time trying to figure out why he chose her. Hottie spends his time wondering why his heart chose her when she isn’t his usual type. There are some really funny scenes, especially the adult book store. I just wish the author had chosen to develop the characters more and not making them so stereotypical.

Blood and Sin

Blood and Sin - Laura Thalassa, Dan Rix Sara's 5 Star Reviews
A very dark read

This story I wasn't so sure about as I started. The storyline was hard to follow as I felt I came into it half finished at the beginning.

The more I read, the more the story evolved. This is a dark story of genocide, deceit, anger, revenge, love and ultimate betrayal.

There is a moral to this story threaded through just underneath the tale.
It is a story that makes you think and ask questions you might not want answers to.

I am intrigued enough to want to continue reading this series.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sweet Ride

Sweet Ride - Dani Wyatt ***** Crystal's 2.5 Star Review *****
This is the story about an F-bomb dropping donut store owner with a criminal past named Thorne, and CeeCee, a sweet, but sassy woman hiding from her past.
One day Thorne comes out from the backroom of his flagship donut shop to check on the front when he sees CeeCee for the first time. It’s a case of instalust for him and once she leaves, he asks his cashier who she is. When told that she would be back later that day (Friday night ritual), he makes sure he’s the only staff member there.
CeeCee doesn’t know about Thorne, but when she gets to work at the dental clinic, she finds out that she’s got to stay late to help translate a meeting with some investors and her boss (a sleezeball). When she doesn’t show up at the donut shop before closing, Thorne shows up at her work and recognizes what a sleezeball her boss really is and rescues her from the clutches of said sleezeball. This is more excitement that CeeCee has had in a long time. She likes being alone, curled up with her donuts and book boyfriends. All of a sudden, this downright hottie busts in with his suit and motorcycle, rescuing her from her pervy boss.
The excitement’s just getting started with this quick HEA. We have an alpha male and a smart, sassy female and the sparks fly, but I don’t feel it’s reached where it could be. The reason for the 2.5 stars review is 1) the plot is extremely fast moving, 2) there are some editing issues, 3) I had issues with the fact that she stayed to help her father after how horrible he was to her when she was younger, 4) the fact that there was something behind his motives for all the blood testing he was making her go through and she didn’t even think twice about it 5) some plot holes that need to be to be fixed. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this author, so I’m hoping that it’s just an issue with this particular story.

Wreck You (Trade Me)

Wreck You (Trade Me) - Randi Perrin Becky's 5 Star Review
Wreck You is a story of mutual attraction and love found, lost, and found again. Mike and Blake both feel the attraction, but neither will act for their own reasons. When things do heat up between the two and then end abruptly, Mike, who already has a drinking problem, spirals out of control. I do like the fact that Mike's initial recovery isn't based on a romantic relationship, but on his long time friend and his boss coming to the rescue. I really liked Mike and Lydia's relationship. They're longtime friends who don't hesitate to tell each other what's what. This is my first experience with this author and after reading this endearing story, I'll be checking out her other titles.

Bella Vol. 3

Bella Vol. 3 - Kimberly Blalock After Bella's Papa's decline and death Jax takes over the head of the Familiar as the Boss of Bosses. Bella is coming to terms with some things and is still wondering if Jax could or will ever love her. Jax has to step up and become stronger for the Familiar and the life he now has. Great continuation. I'm really beginning to love this series!

Forbidden Kisses

Forbidden Kisses - Sha Renée Becky's 4 Star Review
Fast-paced and well-written, this is a pretty straight forward romance. The characters are easy to connect with and they're likable. The conflict is just enough to add that touch of drama, making for a quick, enjoyable read.

The Jekyll Revelation

The Jekyll Revelation - Robert Masello Crystal's 5 Star Review
I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This is the first time I have read Mr. Masello’s work and I can’t wait to go read more.
This is the imaginative telling of a tale that weaves Robert Louis Stevenson and Jack the Ripper. It seamlessly blends historical fact (the first Ripper attack coincided with the first night the play based on his story Strange Case of Jeckyll and Hyde opens in London) with fiction. It also blends the past with the present. It is a page turner, I couldn’t stop reading and when I had to put it down, I couldn’t wait to get back to it. Mr. Masello, I am so glad to have found you. Now to go read your other works.

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling - Matthew Robbins Becky's 4 Star Review
The perfect book for a feel good read. Robbins drew me in with interesting characters (some I wanted to hug and some I wanted to shake) and an equally interesting story line. Felix and Ronan make such a great pair and I truly enjoyed Felix's journey to realizing he deserved happiness - and his escapades on the Malloy farm of course!

A Witch's Kitchen

A Witch's Kitchen - Dianna Sanchez B.S. Crystal's 5 Star Review
Millie is the daughter of a powerful witch. The only problem? Millie can't cast a spell to save her life. The only thing she can do is cook and cook well. After a coven meeting, it is decided by the head of the coven that Millie should attend a school that's nearby as a representative of the Witches. The other young witches laugh and tease poor Millie.

Once at school, Millie discovers that her magic does funny things. Things no one else can do. She makes friends with both a pixie and an elf, her cooking brings them together. The girls and Millie's half-brother Max (who is a wizard and also attends the school) all go on a grand adventure that leads them from the Enchanted Forest Realm to the Human Realm.

I absolutely adored this book. I cannot wait until my 8-year old can read it. When I told her the premise of the story, she was jumping up and down with excitement. The writing is wonderful, the characters are enchanting. Such a great story!!
