Cross Checked (Shots On Goal Standalone Series Book 2)

Cross Checked (Shots On Goal Standalone Series Book 2) - Kristen Hope Mazzola Crystal's 5 star Review
If you’ve read Hat Trick (Book 1) then you have already met Brayden and Kayla. If you haven’t, then get off your butt and get to reading!! Brayden and Kayla meet under the most awful of situations, his mother and sister were in an accident resulting in the death of his mother and landing his sister in ICU. Kayla was the night ICU nurse who was on the night his sister was brought in, and was kind enough to text him to let him know his sister had an uneventful night.

A few months later at a pet adoption in the park, Brayden and Kayla meet up again. This time they are both single and they start texting each other. Brayden, a star with the New York Otters (my favorite hockey team), is not into relationships in the beginning of the story. Like most guys his age, he was into the ‘hookup’ and not a date. It was great to read the way he changed in the story without him seeming to notice. Kayla is not your typical female, she loves a relationship, but never wants to get married. I love the flow of the story, but as with most of Ms. Mazzola’s works, it’s over far too soon. I would definitely recommend both Cross Checked and Hat Trick.

Claimed

Claimed - Sarah O'Rourke Becky's 4 Star Review
The characters in the quirky little town are full of spunk and kept me turning pages to see what they'd say next. Not just Aiden and Carolina, but the whole dang town! Claimed was a quick read and it is instalove, but I just couldn't help but root for these two to get together. This lighthearted read is the perfect thing for curling up and whiling away a couple of hours.

Blissful Valentine: A Novella

Blissful Valentine: A Novella - Amy L. Gale Crystal's 5 Star Review
At her first frat party since she was in High School, Lexie runs into Dean, literally, spilling her drink all over herself. Later, grabbing a different drink, one marked “Virgin”, she meets up with him again and this time he comes to her rescue. Turns out that her drink isn’t a virgin drink, but one that makes girls act like virgins. In other words, it had been spiked.
Dean decides that from now on, they will be each other’s wingman and the two form a fast friendship. Lexie is concerned, mainly because she doesn’t want to fall for him and that she doesn’t want to fall in that old cliché about sleeping with a frat guy. Besides, what if he finds someone, then where would she be.
This is a really cute, quick story, just in time for all the romance that surrounds Valentine’s Day. Their relationship does not progress into an insta-love and for that I am grateful. I definitely recommend this book.

VIP: Taken By the Billionaire

VIP: Taken By the Billionaire - Tasha Fawkes Becky's 3 Star Review
This story was an interesting idea, but it was just too short to have the depth it needed. It's a bit choppy at times and doesn't really give enough details to support the plot. Throughout the story, Jase is all about sex and submissive partners. No strings, no relationships, and then the ending is a complete 180 from that. If it were just that he didn't want a relationship and found himself in one, I wouldn't have a problem with it, but that's not the case here. I don't want to give spoilers, so I won't go into more detail than that. Overall, it's a steamy read with a good idea that just didn't quite reach it's potential.

Fake Fiancée

Fake Fiancée - Ilsa Madden-Mills Crystal's 5 Star Review
I had seen the hype on Facebook about this book and I am usually one who doesn't fall for it, but I'm telling you, this book is just amazing! I recommend this story to anyone, get it and read it now. I know you'll love it as much as I do.

Ugly Love

Ugly Love - Colleen Hoover Crystal's 5 Star Review
I'll admit it, this is the first book by the Goddess known as Colleen Hoover that I've read. When a very sweet author found out that I hadn’t read any of her books, she immediately shipped me off a copy. Thank you so much, Sarah O’Rourke!!

Now let’s get down to the nitty-gritty of the review. I honestly wish this book was called Ugly Cry instead of Ugly Love because then you would have some inkling of what’s to come. Especially when you are in the car riders line at your daughter's school and you are reading the ending. When a stranger comes up because she sees the tears and shudders you give off to make sure that you are ok, you know you have just read an amazing book. I’m not usually one for a good ugly cry, but geesh, you just have to read it and live it while it’s happening. This author pulls you directly into the story and only kicks you out once she has finished ripping your heart out and dancing on it. Can you give a book more than 5 stars? Because if you can, I would love to get this one right up there! I have to recommend this book to anyone that hasn’t read it. You won’t be disappointed, but remember, your heart will be left mangled and your mascara on your chin.

The Eye of Nefertiti: A Pharaoh's Cat Novel

The Eye of Nefertiti: A Pharaoh's Cat Novel - Maria Luisa Lang Crystal's 5 Star Review
This is the continuation of A Pharaoh’s Cat, and I recommend you read it first. Wrappa-Haman and Wrappa-Gato are back. After everything happened in Ancient Egypt with the Vizier and the Pharaoh, the two fled again. They went back to modern day NYC, living with Elena, and getting used to the life there. Elena’s now had Wrappa-Gato’s baby and Wrappa-Haman smells the same scent on him that he got from the Pharaoh and knows that the Pharaoh, his closest friend, has been reborn. Now Elena has received an offer of a job from someone in England and heads there almost immediately with the baby. Since Wrappa Gato and Wrappa-Haman cannot travel the regular way, they must use the same means of transportation that got them from Ancient Egypt to NYC. Once in England they finally discover that the recluse that hired Elena is none other than Queen Nefertiti, wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten. She has been cursed to live forever and desperately wants to find the way to end it. She is hoping that they will be able to help her.

This book is even better than the first, in my opinion. I loved the weaving in of the 18th Dynasty, the Pharaoh Akhenaten, and of course one of the most recognized women in the world, Nefertiti. This book is well written and the characters are well plotted out. I constantly wanted to know what was going to happen next. What a great ending to both this book and the storyline as well. Great job!

Bryce

Bryce - Nana Malone Crystal's 5 Star Review
Bryce Coulter is one of the biggest stars on the tennis circuit. At least until he’s injured. His overbearing family won’t leave him alone about when he can return, even going so far as to contact his therapist and such for updates. When it all came to a head for him one day, he takes off walking. Coming across a tennis court on the not so good side of town, he sees a woman practicing by herself. Recognizing talent, he goes in to talk to her. Tami Ivey has had a rough day at work, which is normal. She works for one of the biggest sporting goods chains and has to deal with insufferable idiots who expect everything to be handed to them. Trying to let off steam on the court, she is interrupted by Bryce. After a brief chat, they go their different ways (thanks to his sister and her best friend). Tami hopes not to see him again and Bryce can’t wait to find her again.
This is such a well-written book. I couldn’t put it down. I was swiping so fast, my boyfriend wanted to know what was going on. When I told him it was an amazing book, he just nodded (so not a bookish person). I needed to know if this was going to be an HEA. I needed it to be for some reason and I’m not one to need things like that. Great job Ms. Malone. You have a new fan because of your writing style and characters. I can’t wait to read what’s next.

Body of The Crime

Body of The Crime - R. Scarlett Crystal's 3 Star Review
This series needs to be read in order. I had problems connecting to the characters, even though Molly has definitely grown since the first book. The writing is good, like I said, I just couldn't connect and I couldn't get into it.

The Pharaoh's Cat

The Pharaoh's Cat - Maria Luisa Lang Crystal's 5 Star Review
When a stray cat in ancient Egypt is abused by the Vizier in a pyramid, the goddess Bastet reacts. Now with human like qualities including the ability to walk and talk, Wrappa-Hamen becomes the favored of the Pharaoh and is under his protection. The two become fast friends and the Vizier does not like that he is not as close to the Pharaoh as he once was. As the two have many adventures, Wrappa-Hamen begins to notice things that the Pharaoh doesn’t about the Vizier, including his attitude, treatment of others, and overall jealousy. When the Pharaoh is murdered, the Vizier accuses Wrappa-Hamen and attempts to arrest him. With the help of an inventor, who is also the High Priest Wrappa-Gato, Wrappa-Hamen escapes. Now in a different time, can Wrappa-Gato and Wrappa-Hamen figure out what happened and how to fix it?

When I told my boyfriend I was reading this book and what it was about, he was a little concerned. You see, I have been fascinated with Ancient Egypt from the time I was a kid. I spend most days with the tv on watching documentaries about anything to do with that time in History. I know a lot about that time frame, which means I look for historical accuracy. He felt that I wouldn’t be able to suspend reality enough to get behind and review fairly this book. He was so wrong! I was excited reading this! You have a smart mouth being who is both cat and human, various gods, including Bastet, pharaoh’s, priests, etc. Besides, the writing is so good, I couldn’t stop reading. I needed to know what happened next. By the way, if you want to know where the cat and high priest end up when they flee (and you should), check this book out. It’s really good and I can’t wait to get started on the next one.

Vein Of Love

Vein Of Love - R. Scarlett Crystal's 3 Star Review
I just couldn’t get behind the whole premise of the story. Too much going on and not enough time for the author to clarify. I know that there is more in this series, but it was too much in one book. I liked it, but wasn’t wowed or anything. This is Molly and Tensley’s story. Molly, a daemon with the eyes to match has been betrothed to Tensley since she was a child. Only problem, Molly doesn’t know anything about it. Her parents have kept everything from her. Heading out on the night of her nineteenth birthday to a party thrown by friends, she doesn’t listen to her parents when they request she stays home.
When Tensley shows up and saves her from a gorgon (think Medusa), he has to explain things to her. Neither one is happy about the situation. Tensley’s happy (as happy as a demon can be) with his life and doesn’t need or want Molly. Molly doesn’t want to be around demons (well, who would). Finally it comes out that 300 years ago, an ancestor made a pact and the time has come to fulfill that end of the deal. A Daemon is a rare thing and now on top of running the family business, he has to worry about protecting Molly from the other creatures that go bump in the night until the wedding takes place.
I will be ready Body of Crime (Blackest Gold #2) next.

Stars of Fortune: Book One of the Guardians Trilogy

Stars of Fortune: Book One of the Guardians Trilogy - Nora Roberts Crystal's 5 Star Review
Oh my gods, this book is just plain awesome. We have a mage, seer, werewolf, and a mermaid so far, how can you go wrong? It’s very interesting to read about how the six strangers come to be all on the same Greek Island together. They are learning to work together to stop an evil force from finding the Stars and using them to release havoc on the world. I loved the how Ms. Roberts describes everything. The imagery is just on point. You can see it all in your minds eye just from the words written. I will definitely be continuing on with this series. It looks like Ms. Roberts can do no wrong from my perspective.

Hades

Hades - Elda Lore Crystal's 4 Star Review
One day while Persephone Fields was out swimming with her best friends, she meets Hades son, Hades. He rescues her and takes her to his realm. When his parents find out, they have mixed reactions. His mom, the original Persephone, is absolutely livid. His father wants to use her as bait to make her mother sell her farm to him in order to get her daughter back.
Persephone and Hades fall for each other, but they vow not to turn out like his parents.
This book was such a surprise to me. I absolutely loved the characters and enjoyed the story line. My only issue was that there were some parts where the story dragged, getting bogged down in details. I will definitely continue with this series…

Solis

Solis - Elda Lore Crystal's 4 Star Review
This is the second book in the series and I recommend reading Hades first because they do reference it many times in this one.
In this book, we meet Solis, son of Zeke (Zeus). Zeke’s been coming to Persephone’s mom’s farm for years and has invited both Persephone and her best friend Veva to his house for a vacation while they are out of college for the summer. While there, they meet Zeke’s son Solis. At first Veva does all that she can to avoid Solis because she can recognize a player from a mile away. Solis is bound and determined to stay away, but Solis is just as determined to get closer.
I liked this story a lot. The characters are great, I love to see everyone’s story line as it pertains to the gods. Once again, my issue was some parts dragged because of the details. Now, will I read this story again and continue on with the series? ABSOLUTELY!! I would recommend this series to anyone who likes PNR with a twist to it. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Trigger

Trigger - L.P. Dover Crystal's 5 Star Review
When Preston Hale was in college, he had it pretty good. Lead singer in a band, he had just about anything he wanted. Then one night on his way out, he witnesses a woman being attacked and his actions caused his life to be changed forever. After that incident, he disappeared without a trace, no one, not even his band knew what happened to him.
Eight years later and Preston is met with a vision from his past. Emma Turner was a member of his college band and the one woman he could have fallen for if his heart was whole. Now forced to work in the same vicinity, it takes all of Preston’s willpower not to fall for her. He’s afraid she will turn tail and run when she finds out what he actually does for a living.
Emma can't believe that after disappearing one night eight years ago he has resurfaced. Eventually, she finds out what caused the disappearance and what he's been doing since the night he took off. She also finds what happened to his mother and sister when he was a teen. She is out to prove to him that she still wants to be there for him and with him.
Now it's up to Preston to decide his next move.
I have read many books by Ms. Dover and I can tell you with 100% honesty that her books just keep getting better. This book was a non-stop page turner. I didn’t even want to put it down to go to sleep. The book then invaded my dreams. You know you have a winner when that happens.

Blood Brothers

Blood Brothers - Nora Roberts Crystal's 5 Star Review
Another amazing book by Nora Roberts. This is the start of the Signs of Seven Trilogy about 6 people who are brought together to stop evil from taking over one town every seven years. We are introduced to all the main characters in this book and follow along as they start to learn about the real reason they are brought together. Each book is about 2 of the characters, but the other four are usually always nearby, so you learn about all of them. I would definitely recommend this book and I can’t wait to start on the next book in the series.
